Eaten there now for dinner and Sunday early breakfast - both delicious with no rush and great service.

Valentina's, you haven't won my heart...yet. I came here for a late dinner on a weekday, and when I arrived, no one was present to seat me. I know it probably gets slow in the evenings. Eventually I was seated and encouraged to try the new beer from Mexico. Dang I can't remember its name but it was brand new to the restaurant and not one you can ever get in the U.S. I've never seen it before. Oh well, go here for new Mexican beers. I had the chile rellenos and they were quite disappointing. The chiles hadn't much flavor or heat, and the rellenos were just soggy like they had been sitting out all day waiting for a dude like me to order em. I can't really hate on the place because a relleno is a relleno, but it wasn't up to par for a town like Santa Fe. I think the restaurant is fairly new, however, so they probably deserve another chance. The hominy was awesome, and the price was right. Sometimes the strip mall places are awesome in Santa Fe, but this place was just ok.

Excellent brunch, there was a party of 40 at the same time and it was no trouble getting excellent service and grinds...

Nice service but owners are awful I could hear them yelling in the back from my table.

Food was really good. Sopapillas were excellent! Chilie was Good not very hot but That's the way I like it. The server was friendly. I will be going back.

We decided to give breakfast a try as the lady who owns the place with her husband has a kid in our local parish school. The interior is very nice with many paintings for sale which are evocative of FrIda's work. I ordered the Carne y Huevos which is actually carne adobada and eggs with breakfast potatoes and sopapillas. The carne came out in large chunks and was fork tender. The red chili was perfectly hot and the potatoes were cooked perfectly as we're the sopapillas. Valentina's gets bonus points for hosting the all-girl Mariachi band "Buena Ventura" on Wedn. And Thurs. evenings from 6:30 until 7:30.

I came to this lovely little restaurant on my first trip to Santa Fe. I'm from Texas, and I also know what great, authentic Mexican Food tastes like being that my mother is Latina, always cooking homemade meals. The food was fantastic. I ordered chips and guacamole as an appetizer. Pico de gallo was put in the guacamole and three little dishes of three different salsas came with the order as well, which was pleasantly surprising. Our entrees came out quickly, and ohhhh my goodness. Mine was delicious. (I put up a picture: Suiza's Chicken Enchiladas. It was a special though.) The rice was moist, which, to me, is a good sign. I ate that shit up quick, basically. Also, our waitress was super sweet. She took care of us. If I lived in Santa Fe, I'd definitely be a repeat customer. Thank you, Valentina's.

Got the triple enchiladas. The chicken was delicious. The others were good but nothing fabulous. The sopapillas were delicious. The waitress was very friendly and did a great job.

The red chile was delicious just the right amount of heat. Great find would highly recommend to any local. Needs some work on the Ac unit though. But I would definitely go back for the food. Especially for the sopapillas. They need a better honey choice though and this would be over the top.

Nice little restaurant. Good, reasonable priced food, friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. At the top of my list is their flan. I don't generally order flan in a restaurant as it seems that it is often thickened with flour or cornstarch, or is watery. However, asking before ordering, I was assured that there were no extra thickeners used - only milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla. And, cooked properly so it wasn't watery.

The red chili cheese enchiladas are delicious. The read sauce has the right amount of spice and texture. The whole beans and rice are very tasty. Next time will try some salsa...

Well I am going to continue the 5 star reviews! We went here in a Friday night around 8, and it was pretty quiet so we got a booth right away. Not from New Mexico so we were not sure what to get but wow was it impressive. We got the adovado combo and the adovado burrito. Christmas chiles on both. It was fantastic. The soapapillo was delicious as a dipper, I almost wish I had gotten the stuffed ones. It's cheap too! The waitress was very friendly and we left stuffed. I think the in could have split my meal, but good left overs!

Have since tried the mole enchiladas and the green chile chicken enchiladas. The mole was as good as any I have had in Oaxaca and the green chile made with fresh chile is the most flavorful I've eaten in Santa Fe.

Based on 2 positive reviews here on Yelp I tried Valentina's. For my first Mexican food since getting back from trip to the northwest, my meal the Valentina Plate did not disappoint. It was delicious. This location in the west end of Solana Center has seen many eateries come & go. I hope this one makes it. Neighborhood cafes can really enhance a community.

I love this place. It's my new favorite New Mexican restaurant. Great food, delicious chile, not greasy, good prices, and friendly staff. Everything I've ordered has been excellent.

I was in Santa Fe for a few days with my family and some friends, and craved some good New Mexican red chile. Based on the reviews, we walked a half hour from the plaza to Valentina's, and it was well worth it! The atmosphere was casual and family friendly; our party included an infant, a toddler, and a 6 year old, and two other adults, and everyone felt welcome. Upon looking around, we noticed that at least half of the other tables had small children, but kids weren't screaming or running around. Unbeknownst to us, we dined there during mariachi night (a Wednesday) and were pleasantly surprised to have live music for an hour while we ate. I think that the group's name was Mariachi Buenaventura and their voices were amazing. As for the food, I ordered the special, chicken flautas, smothered in red chile. The flautas were a little dry, but the chile was SPECTACULAR, as were the sopapillas. My husband ordered a burrito, but our toddler ate most of it, which is a testament to it's tastiness in and of itself. Our friend ordered a veggie quesadilla and couldn't finish it, it was that big, plus she wanted to leave room for the sopapillas. All in all, this is a place worth coming back to the next time we travel through Santa Fe.

Best restaurant we ate at on our 4 day trip to Santa Fe! Food was very fresh and healthy, not greasy. Customer service was phenomenal! The wait staff was so friendly. Food came out fast.

This delicious, authentic, affordable Mexican food is what Tomacita's wishes it was. What an absolute gem. From the outside you might not think much of Valentina's and walk right on by, but this place is a pocket of New Mexican heaven that should not be overlooked! They make their tortillas! Fresh, homemade tortillas, like GO THERE NOW!

Excellent dinner and service. My first trip to NM and this place was so highly rated here that I had to try it. I've heard about NM green chili for years and finally got a chance to try some during a week long trip here. This was my third restaurant to try it and was far and away the best. I had the Carne Adovada burrito with both red and green chili (Christmas style) and was very pleased with my meal.

  • Peter C.

Wow, can't believe all the 5 star reviews, I'm being generous giving 2. The guacamole was not fresh. 3 salsas, and all 3 were bland and mild, no spice, no flavor. The margarita menu was 1 drink long, obviously an off the shelf mix and cheap tequila, and weak. Then the main dishes came, more blandness. Bland beans. Bland taco meat, literally just cooked ground beef. Plain dry posole. Fajita meat that tasted like unseasoned low grade beef. At least the red chile had some flavor, hard to take the flavor out of that, but it tasted like it started with a burnt flour roux. Nothing here was "the best in town" as proclaimed in several reviews, not even close. I swear, some of you yelpers have no clue what good food is. You should do the rest of us a favor and stay off yelp if you're going to throw 5 stars around so easily. I blame you people for wasting my money and a meal, when I could have had a good dinner.

Don't be fooled by the 5 star reviews. Obviously friends of the family or something. Been here 3 times. Always disappointed. Thought you couldn't mess up a breakfast burrito? Check out Valentina's. Their burritos come standard with 1 egg and about 2 whole potatoes. Why? Because their cheap. I purposely ordered a burrito with 3 eggs instead of 1. It was still a mountain of potatoes. And they forgot the chili. It's kind of pricey for what you get too. Nothing feels fresh. It's such a cheap attempt attempt to cash in on the New Mexican cuisine market here in Santa Fe. Why go here when there are tons of really good places to go for New Mexican here? La Choza, the Shed, Maria's, etc.

Admittedly, I am addicted to carne adovada. These people have made my troubles worse. Great service, though a bit slow--new lace maybe still working out some kinks. Prices are below average for this quality. We ate outside, but inside ambiance looked casual, friendly, and typical laid-back NM. Partner had green chile chicken enchiladas, also excellent and not as hot today as the red. BUT THE RED!! It lit up all the happy parts of my brain - probably the reasons the Anasazi had no word for depression. I see several high marks for the sopapillas, and heartily agree. Also agree with reviewer who advocated changing to some quality, local honey (the thick stuff with the dark amber color would be worth another $2). That's enough. We loved the place.

I usually don't write reviews on Yelp. I figure most things I'd share has already been written by others. But this time I feel compelled... Valentina's is terrible!!! I'll start with my margarita. Only one choice should have been my clue. It is clearly a pre-made mix. Bottom shelf tequila. Salsa and guacamole comes out looking promising with three salsa choices. All were bland, lacking flavor, with only a hint of spice. I'm already disappointed before my meal comes. Combo Grande. I figure this is a good choice to sample their basics. Their red chile tastes pasty. The beef in the taco has zero flavor. The chicken in the flauta is pure white and cold. Are we noticing a trend? Their posole is also pure white, zero flavoring, and tastes like hominy right out of the can. I keep taking another bite hoping I am missing something, but I'm not. I can name 10 New Mexican restaurant in Santa Fe better than this one. Please don't waste your time at this one.

Great hidden secrets here, great service and food. Reasonable process too. Red Chile enchiladas are awesome, have to comeback

Go there. Everything I've had was delicious. The Valentina soup cured my cold. The steak that comes with the steak and eggs is half the plate and was a true medium like I ordered. My favorite thing to get is the chile verde (tomatillo salsa) and put it on everything. This is the kind of place I could take my mom who thinks very few Mexican restaurants make food as good has hers. The family that runs it is super nice and they are always sweet and accommodating to our 1 year old, who is crazy about the beans and rice btw.

  • Mark B.

The food was good. I had the adovada enchiladas. Very good, but very spicy (and I'm a Texas native and like spicy Mexican food.) I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 due to the minimal drink options and prices. I like a good beer with my Mexican food, but there are no beers on tap here and the run-of-the-mill selection in cans & bottles is overpriced. $4.50 for a 12-oz. bottle of Negra Modelo or Dos Equis? That's too much. And only "wine margaritas" -- no liquor license here. If you do go here, go on mariachi night -- Wed., usually. An excellent all-female mariachi band.

Had breakfast at Valentina's and was not disappointed. We had an 18 month old with us so we needed a certain amount of understanding from the staff to be able to enjoy our meal, and they were great to us. The restaurant was not busy, it was a Monday morning around 10 am. I had Migas and sopapillas...of course. My dining partner had Papas Rancheros. The Migas were scrambled eggs with diced red peppers, onions, bell peppers and tortilla strips. The eggs were a little over scrambled but not dry. The dish came with refried beans and a choice of another side. The eggs were delicious and the sopapillas were outstanding, the best of the two times we had them in Santa Fe. The papas dish was also delicious. I would highly recommend Valentina's. Also, it is not in the midst of the old town hustle and bustle. We parked easily (and free) and enjoyed a relaxed unpretentious breakfast at a reasonable cost.

Ok, this was an interesting experience. We were in Sante Fe from Denver and decided to try something new. It was ok. Food wasn't bad, service was good. I pay for my families meal and leave. I realize the next morning that my credit card is gone, so I call the restaurant (the last place I was). They tell me that they don't have my card. I wait awhile and check back, and they tell me no again. I then cancelled my card. The next day, I look on my account, and lo and behold, not only is there a charge for my family dinner, but another random charge from Valentina's. I call the restaurant and ask to speak to the manager. A woman tells me that she doesn't know when he will be there. I explain my situation and she tells me that she will do some checking. She calls me back and tells me that it was a meal that was charged, that I must have eaten there again. I explain that I have only been there once, and my card went missing there too. She tells me that I must have dropped my card somewhere else and they just happened to come into Valentina's the next day and eat. WOW. She then tells me that if I give her my bank account number, she will deposit money into my account. BIG WOW. She said she tried to cancel the transaction, but could not since the card was cancelled. She then offered to mail me the $20. I gave her my address, and I'm sure it will surprise everyone that I NEVER GOT THE CHECK. I would like to say in conclusion that this is a truly disturbing situation. I am amazed that someone would be that brazen. I guess if you have someone like that managing your restaurant, you can fend off angry customers. Now I guess I have to call the police to report it. I am so pleased that I could buy someone lunch over there!! MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR CARD FROM THIS RESTAURANT!

we've been several times and everything is delicious. I recommend the vegetarian burrito, the red sauce, the chicken tacos, and the enchiladas. it's definitely a keeper hope it stays as that space seems to be a little cursed for restaurants.

Excellent - best beans I've had in Santa Fe. Everything here is top quality and not greasy. I was pleasantly surprised both times I've been here. Go!

Yelp gets it right 95 % But not this time The taco shell was stale The meat was dry and tasteless The Pasolini soup was equivalent to a bowl full of paroles with hot water The combo plate had no pico or guacamole And no visible rice or real portion of re fried beans . The pork was good but was a small element of our order. We were amazed that this venue was rated above so many other quality venues we have experienced in Santa Fe. Relatively speaking it would rate it two stars...... Maybe??? On Sunday night the normal chef was absent and the staff tried their hand???

THERE'S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN. Valentina's is the most pleasant, exceptional surprise this year in Santa Fe. First, there are a plethora of options. The phone-book of a menu can be intimidating, but know that every single item is worthy of your taste buds. I've eaten at Valentina's numerous times now and each time I've been able to get something different that blows me away. The burritos are massive and stuffed. The meats are all great quality. The green chile is some of the best I've had. And while the red chile isn't quite as great, it does the job. Now, the sopapillas. Let it be known that Valentina's sopapillas are the new reigning champion of Santa Fe's sopapilla offerings. Everything is just outstanding, outstanding, outstanding. Service is friendly and charming. Honestly, the only problem with Valentina's is that now whenever I want to eat at Cafe Castro, I think, "Wait, maybe lets go to Valentina's instead."

Valentina's has the best chile in town! Everyone else has gone downhill. The sopapaillas are also wonderful ! The service is awesome and location, seating, and atmosphere are what keep us going back.

I will be back. Adovada was right on; generous portions to boot. Saw the mole; looks like something worth returning to try.

New favorite spot for authentic New Mexican food! Enjoyed the carne adovada burrito with red and green chile. The chile was the perfect combination of spice and flavor. The sopapillas were excellent! I will be revisiting soon to try more items from the long list of delicious sounding choices!

I was very excited to come here because of the fabo reviews. The service was great and the presentation was great. The food was just okay. My biggest disappointment was the margarita. It looked so yummy but was SO weak - and I'm a lightweight! We got the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and the Valentina special. The steak in the special was tough but the red sauce was very good. The mole sauce was just okay. It was okay. Not fabo.

This was an unexpected surprise. My flautas were excellent - fresh, tasty, and with perfect texture. My dinner partner's chile rellenos were equally good. The service was fine: friendly and responsive. We're grateful to the other Yelp reviewers for alerting us to this place.

Mexican food that isn't greasy?!- it's true! I am so happy to have heard about this place. The portions are large (we're splitting an entree next time) and the food is delicious. I didn't have that 50 pounds of cheese in my gut feeling after eating here. The beans are yummy- which is important when dining out on Mexican food. Sopapillas are fab, but they'd do well to invest in equally fine honey. The honey tasted like it was cut with corn syrup. All in all, the best Mexican food in Santa Fe- and I've been here 22 years!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
